The Stakes
Capability You Cannot Buy Your Way Into Overnight.
A 7-axis robotic cell is not a purchase; it is a program. The hardware, the tooling library, the fixturing, and the years of post-processor tuning represent millions in capital and a hiring problem most shops cannot solve. Meanwhile, the architectural and memorial commissions that carry the strongest margins are precisely the ones that demand deep undercuts, drapery, and figurative relief.
Toll-carving removes that trade-off. You keep the client relationship, the material specification and the final artistic finish. We supply the machine hours, the fixturing discipline and the inspection pass against your approved digital mesh.
Scope
Exactly What Is Delivered.
Included
- Dedicated time on our 7-axis industrial robotic arms.
- Secure mounting and handling of your provided stone.
- Precision milling with conservative plunge rates on natural material.
- Final quality inspection against the approved digital mesh.
- Optional local material sourcing to eliminate inbound freight.
Excluded
- Final manual hand-finishing or polishing; pieces are delivered machine-finished.
- Lettering, sandblast stencil work and retail installation.
- Direct-to-consumer sales; we work business-to-business only.
Process
From Block to Machine-Finished Piece.
Step 1
Material & File Intake
- What happens
- We confirm block dimensions, material grade and the approved 3D mesh.
- Customer does
- Delivers stone to Elberton or authorizes local sourcing.
- What they get
- A binding, fixed-price quote based on simulated machine hours.
- Duration
- 24 hours.
Step 2
Fixturing & Simulation
- What happens
- The block is mounted and the full toolpath is simulated for collisions and reach.
- Customer does
- Approves the simulation report.
- What they get
- A locked, verified 7-axis program.
- Duration
- 1 to 2 days.
Step 3
Milling & Inspection
- What happens
- The robotic cell executes roughing and finishing passes with diamond tooling.
- Customer does
- Tracks progress and schedules outbound freight.
- What they get
- A machine-finished component inspected against the mesh.
- Duration
- 5 to 7 days depending on scale.
$1,095 per machine day
- Baseline:
- Standard 7-axis cell day rate
- Timeframe:
- Per project, quoted before work begins
Machine time is simulated in advance so your margin is fixed before the first pass is cut.
“Our 5-axis machine couldn't handle the deep drapery undercuts required for a custom family plot. CarveWorks handled the toll-carving flawlessly. We didn't have to turn the job away.”
