A Weathered Corbel, Reconstructed in 48 Hours.

Monumental Labs faced a $6,000 delay penalty on an active restoration site after discovering a deteriorated corbel that was not on the original blueprint.

The piece was scanned on site, transmitted to our digital bureau, rebuilt to its unweathered geometry, and returned as verified 7-axis toolpaths within two days. The scaffolding never came down, and the contract schedule held.

Situation

A Detail That Was Not on the Drawing.

Facade repairs on a heritage building exposed a corbel with heavy erosion across the volute and lower scroll. The original profile could not be measured directly, and no drawing of the element survived. The contractor's options were a manual sculptor at a 42-day minimum, or a schedule slip with daily penalties attached.

Monumental Labs held the fabrication contract and needed a partner who could work from a rough scan rather than a clean model.

Approach

Photogrammetry, Then Hand Sculpting.

Our bureau combined the on-site scan set with high-resolution photogrammetry of the surviving profile. Engineers rebuilt the missing acanthus detail by hand rather than letting a generic mesh tool smooth it into a blob, then mirrored the intact side to restore symmetry.

Toolpaths were simulated against the 7-axis cell for reach and collision before the file was released, and the digital proof was approved inside the four-hour Rush Lane window.

Outcome

Measured Result.

48 Hours

Baseline:
42-day manual carving queue
Timeframe:
Scan to verified toolpath

Digital reconstruction and G-code generation completed inside the Rush Lane guarantee.

$6,000 Penalty Avoided

Baseline:
Contracted site delay charges
Timeframe:
Single project

The restoration schedule held, so no delay charge was triggered against the fabricator.

CarveWorks took a scanned file of a weathered architectural corbel and returned a flawless, machine-ready 3D path. They eliminated a $6,000 penalty we were facing for project delays, delivering perfect stonework in days rather than months.
